Work at home

Work at home people work harder on average.

Although in my case, the more time I spend on the computer, the worse I get at writing and drawing.

I lose focus.

So I have to limit the amount of time I'm on the computer.

It's one of the reasons I don't do it on weekends.

Then, of course, I haven't been to the gym for two weeks, so the chances of me being in tip - top shape are pretty much nil.

But on the plus side, I'm losing weight - and what with exercise that means that I'll be able to fit into the shorts I'm getting for Christmas - my swimsuit for my holiday break, which means I'll have to get out there and exercise soon after I get home.

That way, I'll at least have something to look forward to.

This year, we celebrated Christmas a little earlier, with Greg, Mandy and their kids here on Christmas Eve.

A lot of good that did us.

We ended up watching the original version of The Nativity Story on video.

If you haven't seen it, go get it.

It's a great Christmas story.

I'm not religious, but this movie is almost unbearably moving.

It also, along with the 1978 version of The Sound of Music, became the first movie that I ever watched on Christmas Eve.

The family didn't really understand Christmas.

The original cast recording of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" that Greg bought me didn't really help - we were watching the version sung by the Rockettes, and when there's a saxophone solo, we're pretty sure that Santa won't be coming down the chimney.

The arrival of the kids on Christmas Eve has been the same since I've been an adult - I've still never slept on Christmas Eve.

The adults in the house like to watch Christmas movies in the evenings.

Greg, being one of the nicest, and funniest, people I've ever known, likes to try to get everyone in the mood.

He'll rent a few movies that he knows the kids will like.

So far this year, they've watched The Santa Clause and Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

It doesn't really matter.

That's not what Christmas is about - not that we've ever really fought about it.

Greg's always been an affectionate guy - and, as I think he appreciates, I'm kind of the same.

I'm not into all the mushy stuff that movies like Love Actually try to make you believe in - but I'm okay with that.

Anyway, the carols can wait until later.

We've had two weeks of them before.

Later comes a little earlier this year, because Christmas is a little different this year.

This is our first Christmas without my dad.

When I think back to how I felt at the end of last year, it's almost impossible for me to believe that I've made it through my first Christmas without him.

A lot of the change was my doing - I've made a point of turning everything over to Greg.

The living room, which used to be where my dad always kept his recliner, is now being used as a den.

I turned his workout equipment into a coat rack, with a Christmas mug that he gave me as a reminder of him on the wall above it.

The couch has been transformed into a table, with two of my old favorite end tables.
